The Radial PZ-DI is a direct box designed exclusively for acoustic and orchestral instruments. Unlike generic direct boxes, the PZ-DI offers flexibility by allowing you to match the input impedance with your source, resulting in improved frequency response, dynamics, and overall musicality, regardless of your pickup type.

The versatility starts with a 3-position load adjustment switch. The 1 meg-ohm position provides the classic impedance found in most active DI boxes. The 220k-ohm setting adds warmth to magnetic pickups, simulating the tone of a tube amplifier. The ultra-high 10 meg-ohm impedance compensates for the often harsh and squawky sound associated with piezo-equipped instruments. This is followed by a fully variable high-pass filter that enables you to tailor the instrument's bass frequencies, either retaining the lows on a cello or adjusting the cut-off point for a violin. For active instruments like acoustic guitars with built-in preamps, engage the low-pass filter to soften the sharpness and achieve a more natural tone.

To ensure ample headroom and minimize distortion, the PZ-DI employs an innovative DC to DC switching supply, converting phantom power into extra headroom. This extended dynamic range is perfect for acoustic instruments. If you encounter an exceptionally loud source like an active bass or digital keyboard, activate the -15dB pad to handle it. The PZ-DI also offers solutions for common stage issues, including a 180-degree polarity reverse switch to tame feedback hotspots and a ground lift switch to eliminate ground loop-induced hum and buzz.
