Connectors
For our balanced cables, high quality Neutrik XLR connectors with gold plated contacts are used. In case of TRS, our special, superior VOVOX phone plugs are used.
Shielded or non-shielded cables?
Many VOVOX sound conductors are available in a non-shielded 'direct' version and in a shielded 'protect' version. The shielding prevents interference such as humming or buzzing sounds, but at the same time causes a small loss in sound quality. There are applications in which shielded cables are mandatory. On the other hand, especially with balanced cables - even without shielding - undesired audible interference is rare. For this reason, 'direct' sound conductors can offer even better results in these cases.
Generally speaking, we suggest using 'protect' cables for all applications in which interference would otherwise cause problems. In all other cases, the non-shielded 'direct' versions should be favored.
Please use 'protect' sound conductors for the following applications:
- when interference will necessarily lead to an uncontrollable situation, e.g. for live concerts or live recordings
- for amplified music instruments with pickups
